What is TVO ILC?
TVO ILC is a high school has been delivering education to Ontario’s learners since 1926. We are accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education to offer Ontario high school credits, as well as grant the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
As the online educational partner of the Ontario Ministry of Education, TVO ILC is trusted by universities, and colleges in Ontario, across Canada and around the world. Can I earn my high school diploma with TVO ILC?

What courses are offered at TVO ILC?
TVO ILC offers 140+ Ontario Ministry of Education approved, secondary school courses across all subject areas. You can browse and select your courses through Explore Courses.
Are there prerequisites for TVO ILC courses?
Courses in Grade 11 and 12 may have prerequisites for enrollment. All prerequisite courses are identified at the top of each course page in Explore Courses.
Are TVO ILC credits accepted by Universities and Colleges for admissions?
TVO ILC credits meet the stated admission requirements for all Ontario Colleges and Universities. TVO ILC credits are also accepted across Canada and globally.
How much do TVO ILC courses cost?
TVO ILC course pricing is subject to residency requirements – 'How to Apply'. Most Ontario residents registering as independent students at TVO ILC will pay a partially subsidized fee of $40 per course.

When can I enroll at TVO ILC?
To be eligible for enrollment with TVO ILC, applicants must be at least 14 years of age or older by December 31st of the current academic year and must have successfully completed Grade 8.
For Example:
- For the 2023-2024 academic year, an applicant must be born in 2009 or earlier to be eligible for enrollment.
- For the 2024-2025 academic year, an applicant must be born in 2010 or earlier to be eligible for enrollment.
Can I enroll as a homeschooled student at TVO ILC?
Parents of homeschooled students are required to provide TVO ILC with the “Letter in Response to Parents’ Notification” from their local school board in which they reside. This will indicate that their child is receiving homeschooling and is excused from compulsory attendance at their local school.

Can I apply for TVO ILC courses if I am enrolled at an Ontario high school?
Students who are currently registered in an Ontario public, Catholic or private High School, cannot register directly with TVO ILC on this website. Students must contact their school’s guidance counsellor to learn more about enrollment requirements for TVO ILC courses.
How many courses can I take at a time?
You can enroll in up to four courses at one time, to a maximum of eight courses in a 10-month period.
What is the TVO ILC course experience?
ILC’s course experience is a flexible, independent learning model. This allows you to manage your time and learn on your own schedule within the 10 months allotted for your course. You can complete your coursework and assessments at your own pace without having set class schedules or teacher-led online lectures.
What are the technical requirements to take a TVO ILC course?
For an optimum learning experience, we recommend the following computer specifications:
- Devices: PC or Mac laptop (preferred) or desktop. Built-in or external webcam and microphone.
- Browsers: Chrome (preferred), Firefox or Safari.
- Software: Word processor, presentation software, PDF reader
- Internet speed: 12 Mpbs download, 3 Mbps upload
How much time do I have to complete a TVO ILC course?
TVO ILC courses are based on 110 hours of independent study as required by the Ontario Ministry of Education. Learners have a maximum of 10 months from the date of enrollment to complete a course. This includes the completion of all required coursework and the final test prior to the course end date. Learners are encouraged to prepare a schedule to assist them with timely submission and completion of assignments.
How do assignments work in TVO ILC courses?
With TVO ILC’s flexible independent learning model, there are no set dates for assignment submissions.
Assignments are required to be submitted in sequential order, one at a time. This allows learners to review and apply feedback received from an Ontario certified teacher (OCT). Assignment feedback and grades are returned to learners within five (5) business days.
Do I have to write a final test?
Yes. Final Tests are a mandatory required component of all TVO ILC courses to ensure the academic integrity of credits being earned and granted.
Will my final test be online?
Yes. All TVO ILC final tests are conducted online. Learners are paired up with a virtual test proctor to supervise the final test session much like teachers do in a regular classroom setting.
Can I get accommodations for my coursework?
As TVO ILC courses are online and interactive, accommodations for coursework and assignments are not provided.
What accommodations are possible for TVO ILC final tests?
Accommodations for final tests may include:
- extra time,
- periodic stop-the-clock supervised breaks (as needed),
- prompts to return learner’s attention to the task,
- clarification of instructions and/or questions,
- a one-page, single-sided, pre-approved study sheet,
- the use of learning tools such as calculators, or
- a reader/scribe provided by the learner in lieu of computer software options.
How do I request accommodations for final tests?
When you register at TVO ILC, you can request accommodations for your final test(s) and provide supporting documentation. All accommodation requests are reviewed by our Guidance Team.
What academic supports are available at TVO ILC?
TVO ILC’s flexible independent learning model is designed to allow you to work at your own pace, but this doesn’t mean you’re alone on your learning journey. Some of the supports available to you are:
- Academic Support such as feedback on assignments, course navigation and content questions, and assignment clarifications.
- Guidance Support such as course selection, pathway planning, graduation requirements, and accommodations for final tests.
